No. 4 Another stump, a Long Search, and Money

Yalllll my bad, my bad!  I didn't mean to ghost for a couple weekends but I just could not choose a plant to feature!  No for real that's what happened!  I was having that same issue today but I decided to shake that procrastination foolishness and just pick a plant!  My problem is that all my plants are beautiful ASF so featuring one at a time is hard for me!

Since I'm late I'll just jump right on in and let y'all know this gathering today will be featuring my new Money Tree!  I had that "all of a sudden I need a Money Tree" thing going on but I didn't want just any Money Tree; I wanted the one with the stump.  It looks more rugged and tree-like which is my favorite feature on all my indoor trees I grow.  Most of the time these plants are sold with braided trunks.  I don't care for those which is why I had never wanted to grow one before.  I just don't care for that look; I never have.  The only manipulated plants I like are Bonsai.  Bamboo is sold that way often too.  Back in the day a truck driver from Taiwan was credited with braiding the trunks of the Money Trees he grew.  He associated the braided feature with "locking in" wealth and prosperity which made the braided trunk Money Trees become quite popular as houseplants in the early 80's.  This plant can be found growing wild and free in the swampy areas of South America!  There are quite a few origin stories that are pretty cool so go search em up if you're interested!

I didn't have to break the bank for my new Money Tree either mainly because I didn't want the variegated version.  That always surprises me because y'all know how I feel about my variegation!  A little education on the Money Tree: it's botanical name is Pachira aquatica.  If yall wanna add the Money Tree to your collections just search that name.  All versions available should pop up.  If you prefer the stump like I do try adding that term to the search and sellers that carry those should also show available.  I found my beautiful plant at one of my favorite online plant shops ~ my beloved Gabriella Plants!  My plant arrived with minimal shipping damage and maximum coolness!

These plants aren't too much trouble; just make sure to go easy on the watering as they are prone to root rot.  I allow my plant to dry out kinda all the way before I water him again to make sure he isn't trying to store too much water in his trunk.  Some of the leaves were damaged during shipping so I snipped those off when I re-potted him.  He is growing in a 4" clear plastic pot;  I used a soil mix I mixed up specially for this plant. I feed him with all-purpose plant food as necessary.  This plant isn't very hungry so I don't feed too much at all tbh.  Money Trees can handle full morning sun as long as it's not too warm; otherwise full sun will burn the leaves of this plant.  I grow my Money Tree in bright, indirect light in an Eastern facing window.  Lower light levels are okay for a spell but these plants thrive in higher light levels.

So basically I finally found MY Money Tree, it's growing well, and if y'all have any questions, comments, or concerns please let me know!  Luh y'all!

Best,

Christy
